'Hahn, in these large watercolors, essentially updates Japanese (and to a lesser extent, Chinese) scroll painting, ratcheting up it's density and color and populating it with often-anthropomorphized animals and cartoon characters (usually anime). It's a familiar-enough-neo-Pop strategy, but Hahn is so skilled, so visually imaginative, and so tender with her subjects that these gorgeous, volatile, easily understood but not easily viewed images retain powerful conceptual as well as sentimental appeal.'
