'Moira Hahn: An Artist's Eye for Fabled Detail'

'When first viewing Moira Hahn's luminous and detailed watercolors, a viewer wants to linger. Subtle patterns merge within a self-portrait. Figures, both ancient and playfully modern, peek out from the complexity of a narrative scroll. Diverse influences have nourished her art- childhood toys, woodblock prints, tattoos, religious images and a teacher whose work altered her course. In 'Twilight Chorus', a suite of paintings recently shown at Koplin Del Rio Gallery, Hahn delves into nether-world images East and West. She has traveled to Japan many times, and her study of 19th century Ukiyo-e masters of ink and brush is reflected in many of her pieces. So is her recent observation of backyard birds waging an eternal battle against the jaws and claws of feral cats.'
