Apparitions: Watercolor Paintings by Moira Hahn

California-based painter Moira Hahn's meticulously detailed watercolor paintings are inspired by nineteenth-century Japanese woodblock prints ('Ukiyo-e', also known as the 'Art of the Floating World') and animation. She worked as an animator in Hollywood before embarking on careers in illustration, and later, fine art. Many of her compositions draw from classical Japanese Kabuki theater and Bunraku puppet performances, which she attended in Japan, and observation of interactions between birds and animals in her back yard.

Moira Hahn's art has been featured in Time Magazine (including a cover), Juxtapoz, The New Yorker, Cosmopolitan, the New York Times, in BoingBoing, and in numerous exhibitions at galleries and museums in the United States, Canada and Japan. This is her first book, featuring 36 pages of color reproductions of some of her best paintings, creatively recombined and beautifully printed in a handsome, small-format art book.
